Tammy Riley – Co-Founder

Tammy Riley is a survivor, advocate, mother of three, grandmother, and co-founder of Survivors Taking Action. Born and raised in rural Nova Scotia by her maternal grandparents, Tammy credits much of her strength, resilience, and determination to her grandmother, a proud Mi’kmaq woman who instilled in her the values of compassion, community, perseverance, and standing up for those whose voices are often unheard.
Having lived in the Niagara Region for more than half of her life, Tammy is deeply committed to improving the lives of individuals and families facing adversity. Drawing on her own lived experiences, she has become a passionate advocate for survivors, victims of crime, and those affected by homelessness, mental health challenges, and addiction. Her work is rooted in the belief that healing, hope, and meaningful change begin when people are given the opportunity to be heard and supported.
As a speaker before municipal and regional councils, Tammy has helped raise awareness of issues impacting vulnerable members of the community while advocating for stronger public safety measures, greater accountability, and improved support systems for individuals and families in need. She is also raising her two young grandchildren, a role that further strengthens her commitment to building safer, more compassionate communities for future generations.
Through Survivors Taking Action, Tammy works to empower survivors, amplify their voices, and create spaces where people can find support, connection, and hope. Known for her authenticity, courage, and determination, she continues to transform personal hardship into purpose, inspiring others to find strength in their own stories and work toward positive change in their communities.
