Lizz Emerson – Co-Founder

Hi, I’m Lizz Emerson.

I am a survivor, advocate, mother of three, and one of the co-founders of Survivors Taking Action.

My passion for advocacy is rooted in my own childhood experiences. As a child, I lived through abuse and faced many of the challenges that survivors encounter when they try to speak up and seek support. Those experiences shaped my understanding of the lasting impact trauma can have, but they also ignited a determination to create change.

My advocacy journey began over 10 years ago while working with the Niagara Sexual Assault Centre. Through that experience, I learned the power of awareness, education, and survivor-led conversations. Wanting to reach more people, I eventually took that advocacy to social media, where I began sharing my story and raising awareness about childhood sexual abuse, trauma, healing, and the barriers survivors often face.

What started as one voice sharing lived experience has grown into a platform that reaches millions of people each month. Through social media, public speaking, awareness campaigns, community events, and legislative advocacy, I work to amplify survivor voices and advocate for reforms that better protect children and support survivors.

As one of the co-founders of Survivors Taking Action, I am committed to helping create a future where children are safer, survivors are heard, and no one feels alone in their journey. I believe that by sharing our stories, challenging harmful systems, and working together, we can create meaningful change for future generations.

I can’t change what happened to me, but I can turn my pain into purpose and my survival into action
